Washington, DC – As part of America Saves Week 2010, scheduled for February 21 – 28, the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) is launching a ‘investigate before you invest’ campaign and urging its members to spread the word of fraud prevention. NASAA is a major partner in America Saves Week, a coalition effort led by the Consumer Federation of America’s America Saves campaign and the American Savings Education Council.
Resources developed by NASAA will be made available to all members in conjunction with America Saves Week 2010. These materials will highlight the extensive information state securities regulators can provide to help investors research investment advisers and stockbrokers and investment products before they invest their hard-earned savings. NASAA will also convey the message of fraud prevention to national financial media contacts.
“Information is the best defense against losing hard-earned savings to investment fraud,” said Denise Voigt Crawford, Texas Securities Commissioner and President of NASAA. “State securities regulators are marking America Saves Week by reminding investors to investigate before they invest. The information investors need to make an informed decision about who to trust with their savings is available by contacting their local state securities regulator.”
America Saves Week, an annual event first organized in 2007, aims to promote personal savings, improve financial education and provide opportunities to save. Through information, advice and encouragement, educators assist those who wish to pay down debt, build an emergency fund, and save for a home, education or retirement.
